gerardo mejia or just simply gerardo for rapping purposes was born in guayaquil ecuador and moved to glendale california with his family in the late 1970s. his first major appearance in entertainment was the role he played as the character in the classic 1980s movie cant buy be love. he also played bird in the 1988 film colors about gang violence in SOUTH CENTRAL LOS ANGELES.
rico suave which includes verses in both english and espanol came out in 1991 and peaked at number-36 on the billboard-200 chart. gerardo is falsely considered to be somewhat of a one hit wonder although he has continued to release 6-other albums since moritmo up to as recently as 2007 including one called gerardo: fame sex y dinero in 2001. and some of his more recent work falls under the experimental rap genres of reggeton and christian rap!
today gerardo mejia is an ARTISTS & REPERTOIRE EXEC at interscope records. he was responsible for bringing enrique iglesias in 1999 and also signed bubba sparxxx to the label. not a bad look . . .
