i really hope @50cent was just fronting when he picked out the title for his 4th studio album because the rap game needs you, CURTIS. for real big ups + much love for holding down the game so hard like you do. and without alienating all my true to their game hip hop heads i gotta say honestly that @50cent's new joint BEFORE I SELF DESTRUCT is prettydamngood !!
MR JACKSON comes with that jazzy ways jamaica queens type slickness debonair style and seamless delivery of swagger that his true to the rap-game fans have been long awaiting since the B.D.O.A. era of mainstream internet giveaways.
the tracks that stand out to me most as the bangers are #4 SO DISRESPECTFUL and #17 FLIGHT-187. #12 I GOT SWAG definitely knocks as does #6 HOLD ME DOWN and #16 COULD'VE BEEN YOU featuring kells. but the track with the most knowledge is by far #2 THEN DAYS WENT BY!
the only song i have a problem with is #5 psycho which is actually cool except for the cacophonous sound of new school eminem clamor that is not only distracting but also a major challenge to listen to.
#11 gangstas delight is amusing in theory. @50cent covers sugar hill gangs epic RAPPER'S DELIGHT in his own G-UNIT trademarked style. its edgy for someone as straight laced as CURTIS to make a track like this. and i am guessing that the backpacker kids across america are already uniting in hatred against this one and that #gangstasdelight is going to be a big topic of discussion at the spoken word forums for years to come. its good though, i really cant playerhate. he definitely has a lot to say about the game and no one rides the beat like he does!
the rest of the album is totally listenable and when all is said and done i give BEFORE I SELF DESTRUCT an 89%. so go buy it on itunes and pick out your favorite track and then put that on your next mixtape that you hand out to all your friends and you will find total fulfillment in life -- thats what im going to do. #realtalk.
