1995 was a great year for THE WU-TANG. clan member raekwon the chef debuted his first solo album entitled only built 4 cuban linx. if you have not heard this album PLEASE pause from reading my blog and go spend $9 or $900 or whatever it costs you and download it in its entirety on itunes. then send me a thank you note and proceed with this blog entry . . .
CUBAN LINX is debatably the greatest of all wutang clan solo albums among the ranks of supreme clientele and liquid swords and even birth of a prince in my opinion. oh yeah and TICAL and all the other joints we know by heart. in 1995 cuban linx threw a mafia gambino twist in HIP-HOP so hard that it redefined GANGSTER RAP as a genre!
the album made the rolling stone essential recordings of the 1990s list before caucasian 3rd graders were standing up to SLIM SHADY. it was selected on the the 100 best rap albums of THE SOURCE (whoop dee doo!) and in 2002 it was retroactively upgraded from 4.5 to 5 mics in the magazine. much respek.
so when i heard that MR. COREY WOODS aka louis rich diamonds aka lex diamond aka da chef aka shallah raekwon is planning to release a sequel at the end of this summer in august i was more than a little bit skeptical. and believe me out of anyone you know i want this to be a good album. i really do!
the wutang clan is my favorite band in history, rap or otherwise and i love shallah raekwon like a big brother but i have to keep my expectations in check and honestly i think this is going to suck apples. don't get me wrong i think he is amazingly talented, one of my personal top-5 favorite emcees for sure and i hope the guy is still rapping when he's 105-years old hitting on blonde girls at the retirement home. but 14-years of anticipation is just too long to wait for the sequel to your debut album when two official solo albums nine mixtapes and innumerable collaborations have since been released. it just seems too ridiculous too me.

the album is to feature THE GAME and busta rhymes and travis barker ?! and bun-b and jadakiss and NAS and ghostface killah amongst other members of the wu. however this is not 1995 and tupac is dead or in cuba and biggie is in heaven and BIG-L is still releasing new greatest hits albums.
producer of the wu-tang rza was quoted as saying this, "the album is gonna attract all the gangstas, n_gga; all the thugs and everybody is going to be listening to this sh_t." and mr. rza man i pray to allah that you are correct sir. godspeed, our hats are off to you !!
