for 25-consecutive years the city of SANTA MONICA has hosted the summer twilight dance series on the santa monica pier. the concerts run from 7pm to 10pm on the actual pier and they are free! no alcohol is allowed but you can bring your dog on a leash and there is no seating so bring your own or you can also rent at a tourist price once you get there. lots of people tend to party down on the beach where its a little less crowded and you can just chill out and listen to the music . . .
each week typically has a theme and tonights is musical icon. JOAN BAEZ will perform with special guest tift merritt from northern california. this is the 2nd performance in the series and the shows will continue through september 3rd.
other shows confirmed for this summer will include: sgt garcia for the global grooves night and squirrel nut zippers and pioneering AFRICAN POP giants thomas mapfumo and the blacks unlimited from ZIMBABWE as well as idan raichel project from ISRAEL and elijah emanuel which is a BILINGUAL REGGAE group from panama plus LATINO ROOTS NIGHT and some other people i dont really care too much about. and the season closer will be an evening with PATTI SMITH and her band !!
personally i am very excited to see joan baez perform tonight. and am also wondering if her exboyfriend mr robert zimmerman aka BOB DYLAN himself will show up??!
