tourettes without regrets or simply TOURETTES is a monthly open mic show started by jamie de wolf kennedy in 1999 in benecia california. the show moved to ongoing infamy in vallejo and now its held once a month at the metro theatre in oakland california.
tourettes is in its 10th-year of production now and has consistently selling out with lines down the block full of drama kids and stand up comedians as well as poets and musicians and even battle rappers! the show itself combines a slew of pranks and wacky stunts including pig heart free throws and dirty haiku as well as phone sex bouts and freestyle battles and tons of live performances.
it has been said the host JAMIE DE WOLF is a red headed love child of richard prior and alex from clockwork orange. jamie has been featured on russel simmons HBO DEF POETRY JAM and is a national poetry slam champion. he is a playwright and a youth speaks mentor and has also facilitated poetry slams and writing workshops for inmates at SAN QUENTIN PENITENTIARY.
the next tourettes will be held tomorrow 8/6 at 630 3rd street at jefferson in jack london square in oakland. it is an all ages show with a full bar and costs $10-dollars for admission. participants must sign up by 8pm and the show begins at 8:30pm.
there will be a $100-dollar freestyle battle and an anything goes slam as well as stand up comedy beat boxing and psychothic erotic vaudeville and tag team breakdance battles and tomato attacks. plus a dirty haiku bout between scalesman versus taking all comers and stand up comedy by duat mai and the notorious extra action marching band!
tourettes is by far the most outlandish and controversial open mic night in california and you should really check it out at least once in this lifetime because its amazing and fun. and where else can you watch a rapper battle a plush jelly doughnut on stage?!
