however soulja boy is pretty much despised by the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY for being talentless. and i think its safe to say he is the arch nemesis of real hip as he has been noted for starting contemporary rap trends like writing music for the lucrative ringtone market and emphasizing catchy tunes that discard rap musics traditional emphasis on lyrics slash message.
in 2008 the rapper had a highly publicized youtube battle of sorts with the rap game veteran ice-t who criticized soulja boy for killing hip-hop and called his hit single garbage. t compared him to hip-hop greats like RAKIM and DAS EFX and BDK and ICE CUBE which is totally a joke to anyone who knows their roots. and KANYE WEST came to his defense arguing that soulja boy created original work in keeping with the authentic meaning of the music.
soulja boy himself had very little to say about the matter in his own defense but did however release a few youtube videos which basically poked fun at the rapper ice-t for being born in the 1950s before the invention of computers and which made fun of his dancing. later that year soulja boy was robbed and assaulted in his own home by masked men with ak47s.
